Who We Assist
Enable assists persons who have permanent or chronic disabilities. The disability may be physical or cognitive and it usually causes difficulties with communication, self-care, mobility or the ability to live independently. For stories from some of the persons served by Enable, CLICK HERE. There are no age restrictions for services arbitrarily imposed by Enable. However, some services have age or other restrictions because of the type of funds received to support the service. Since Enable receives much of its funding from the New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), some services are limited to persons eligible for DDD services. For DDD, the physical or mental impairment must be apparent before age 22 and be lifelong. This includes conditions such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, spina bifida, autism and other neurological impairments. Special funding through the United Way of Greater Mercer County allows Enable to assist persons who are elderly and whose disability may be the result of a medical condition such as multiple sclerosis, stroke or other debilitating illness. Enable does not provide service to persons whose primary disability is mental illness or substance abuse These criteria generally apply. There may be additional eligibility requirements due to the design of a program or the restrictions of the funding source. However, interested persons should inquire if a particular service is available through fee for service, also. See Contact Us. |
