Enable, Inc. Announces Merger with Life Skills Resource Center, Inc.

Princeton, NJ, March 1, 2018 – Representatives from Enable, Inc. and Life Skills Resource Center, Inc. announced today that the two companies have merged. Life Skills will immediately begin to operate as Enable, Inc.

Enable is a leading provider of residential, day and in home services in Central New Jersey that makes living in the community possible for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and seniors. Life Skills’ expertise lies in residential, day and employment services for people in Somerset County with autism spectrum disorder. The merger creates economies of scale while enhancing and expanding the geographic footprint and range of services Enable provides.

Enable, Inc. was founded in 1987 as the Mercer Chapter of the United Cerebral Palsy Association of New Jersey. In 1994, Enable became an independent nonprofit agency incorporated to provide more diverse services to persons with a broader range of disabilities in a larger geographic area. Enable now serves over 500 children and adults with disabilities and seniors in Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, Hunterdon, and Ocean Counties. Services include 14 group homes, four supervised apartments, three day services, and in home supports (personal care assistance with daily living tasks, respite support for caregivers, and care management and in home care for seniors). Community integration to the fullest extent possible is at the heart of Enable’s services.

“Enable and the Life Skills Resource Center share the commitment to provide the highest level of individualized care possible,” said Lisa A. Coscia, Enable’s Chief Executive Officer. “Together we can provide more and better services and opportunities to the people we serve. The merger strengthens Enable’s commitment to serve children and adults who present with challenging behaviors. We benefit from the autism expertise, behavior infrastructure, and skill set that has characterized Life Skills for more than two decades. Life Skills’ consumers will continue to receive the services that they currently receive, living in the same homes and working with the same Direct Support Professionals who currently support them. We believe that the merger will enhance the quality of Life Skills’ lives.”

Life Skills Resource Center, Inc. was incorporated in 1992 in response to the need for expanded programs and services in New Jersey for persons with autism spectrum disorders. Life Skills’ services increase individuals’ abilities and opportunities to participate meaningfully in the community. Life Skills operates four community-based group homes in Somerset County. Their Job Training Center opened in 1993 to provide appropriate, effective and consistent day services for the adults residing in Life Skills Group Homes. All Life Skills’ programs will continue operation under Enable, Inc.

“Merging with Enable is a natural progression for the Life Skills Resource Center and the best decision for the people we serve,” said Jeffrey Markowitz, Life Skills’ President and Executive Director. “We share the same core value of always putting the people we serve first. I genuinely believe that the merger creates enhancements for both organizations’ programs. Each brings unique and complementary skills to the table. Enable’s strong administrative infrastructure allows us to in navigate the Medicaid fee for service system efficiently and effectively. We provide Enable with greater depth in serving adults on the autism spectrum with a history of challenging behaviors. While Life Skills ceases to exist as a corporate entity, what is most important to us – our mission, and the programs, services, supports, and people who reflect that mission – continues.” Mr. Markowitz’s retirement was effective at the close of the merger.
